Hyundai and Boston Dynamics take Atlas to Bloomberg: inside the robot training ground
A Bloomberg documentary opens the doors on the Georgia facility where Hyundai and Boston Dynamics are turning Atlas from a laboratory achievement into a manufacturing system.
Hyundai Motor Group and Boston Dynamics released Inside the Robotics Race: Atlas Learns the Real World on September 30. Co-produced with Bloomberg Media Studios, the film was shot at the new Robotics Metaplant Application Center near Savannah, Georgia — Atlas's training ground for manufacturing work.
At RMAC, the humanoid is trained and validated on recurring factory tasks including parts sequencing and material handling. Results from that work flow back into Atlas's AI model through what Hyundai calls a “Data Flywheel”: field experience informs retraining and revalidation, whose improvements are then returned to the floor.
The film describes Atlas as having “Two Brains.” Reasoning Intelligence handles judgment and planning; Physical Intelligence translates those decisions into precise action. Hyundai and Boston Dynamics frame that architecture — and the path to commercialization around it — as an extension of the operating experience already accumulated with Spot and Stretch.
The disclosed rollout begins with parts-sequencing work at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in 2028, followed by expansion into parts assembly from 2030. Behind it, Hyundai is assembling an end-to-end robotics ecosystem: Hyundai Mobis supplies core actuators; Hyundai Motor and Kia provide manufacturing testbeds; Hyundai Glovis brings logistics infrastructure; and Hyundai AutoEver contributes systems integration.
“The Robotics Metaplant Application Center reinforces our shared vision of enabling robots to work more safely and productively, thereby expanding human potential,” said Jack Jakowski, Boston Dynamics Chief Product and Technology Officer.
