Boston Dynamics shows how Atlas gets built: one a day now, one an hour next year

A new film from its Massachusetts prototype floor says every 2026 Atlas is already spoken for by Hyundai and Google DeepMind.

Boston Dynamics has released a short film taking viewers inside the prototype floor at its Massachusetts headquarters, where the company says it can now build one Atlas humanoid in about a day - and aims to cut that to an hour next year. The film shows Atlas parts, gears included, machined in-house, then assembled, tested, and repaired under one roof.

The company says it brought machining in-house because outside shops kept turning the jobs down: the tolerances were too tight. Engineers work directly with machinists downstairs, and some parts go from design tweak to assembly within a day. Robot arms assist with assembly, and the same floor handles testing, maintenance, and repair. A year ago, building a single robot was, in the company's words, 'quite an event'; after the one-hour target, it expects build times measured in minutes.

The film frames the production push around demand: every Atlas slated for 2026 is already spoken for by Hyundai and Google DeepMind, and Hyundai is planning a US robotics plant with capacity for 30,000 units a year. All production figures and timelines are company statements from the film.
